Our
History

Established in 1897, The Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada is Canada’s longest-standing home and community health care charity, delivering a wide range of vital health and wellness services to more than 10,000 people in Ontario and Nova Scotia every day. VON is accredited with an Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada. Learn more about VON Canada and other programs and services available across Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Since 1914, The Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada has helped Oxford County residents live healthier and more independent lives through the delivery of innovative and comprehensive health and social services. VON Oxford programming includes Meals on Wheels®, SMART® Exercise and Fall Prevention program, Adult Day Program, Overnight Respite, Blood Pressure Clinics, Bathing program, Safety Check, Home Help, Volunteer Visiting, as well as Grief and Bereavement support. VON Canada believes that Health Starts at Home but when staying at home is no longer possible, VON Sakura House hospice is there to offer an alternative to end-of-life care.

The VON Oxford Community Corporation

We are a not-for-profit charitable organization that financially supports the programs and services offered by VON Oxford. VON Canada is in a sense its parent corporation and acts as the umbrella body.

As with any organization, VON Canada needs individuals to act on its behalf to carry out its objectives. These individuals are Community Corporation Directors. VON Oxford Community Corporation Directors are Oxford County residents from all walks of life who volunteer their time. The Directors play a vital role in supporting VON Oxford’s Fund Development team to support fundraising opportunities, create a positive donor experience and produce the most successful outcomes possible.
